Terms of Service

Version memorial-terms-2026.1 · Effective on the date paid purchases open

ThereAfter.life is the trade name of Lido Labs LLC. In these terms, “we” and “us” mean Lido Labs LLC, doing business as ThereAfter.life, based in Baltimore, Maryland. “You” means the person who holds the account.

We are not a law firm, will-writing service, estate administrator or financial advisor. We don’t hold, manage or transfer money or property, and nothing we provide is legal or financial advice.

You must be at least 18 years old to create an account. You confirm your email address before your account opens. Keep your details accurate and your password private. You are responsible for what happens in your account.

Paid purchases need a US service address, which is used to work out tax. Your card and billing address can be from any country.

If we can’t accept a purchase, we tell you before anything is charged.

A Memorial Page is a private page you build over time with your words, photos and videos. Saving or uploading never publishes your page or sends anything to anyone. Nothing is published or sent while you’re alive.

Each Memorial Page includes:

  • 20 GB for photos and videos together, with each file up to 2 GB;
  • up to 200 people to let know when it’s published;
  • a private editor that saves as you go.
  • Memorial Page: $99, paid once. This includes the page and its first year of editing. It doesn’t include hosting.
  • Hosting: $99 for each year. You can buy 0 to 10 years with your Memorial Page, and 1 to 10 years at a time later. There is no limit on how many years you can add in total.
  • Editing after the first year: $99 for each further year, bought once, or renewed automatically if you choose.

Prices are in US dollars and don’t include tax. Tax is worked out by Stripe, our payment provider, from your US service address, and shown before you pay. The price you agree to is the one shown when you agree. It is held for a short time. If it expires, you get a fresh price before anything is charged.

We may change our prices for future purchases. A change never alters a purchase you have already made. An automatic renewal you have already agreed to keeps its agreed price unless we tell you otherwise at least 30 days before the renewal and you can turn it off first.

Complimentary pages. If we invited you to add a complimentary Memorial Page, it includes the hosting term shown when you added it and one year of editing, with nothing to pay for either. After that year you can keep the page as it is, or buy another year of editing.

Your first year of editing starts when you pay (or, for a complimentary page, when you add it). While editing is open you can change your page’s words, photos and videos, the people to let know, and its release settings.

When editing ends, your page stays saved and readable to you, and nothing you’ve written is lost. You can’t change its content, media, people to let know or release settings until you start another year of editing. Hosting you bought is kept, and your page can still be published after your death as described in section 8.

You can restart editing by buying another year. It starts when you pay and is not backdated.

Automatic renewal is optional and stays off unless you turn it on in your account.

If you turn it on, we charge the yearly editing price you agreed to, plus any tax, on the day your paid editing year ends, and again each year after, until you turn it off. Before you turn it on, we show you the exact amount and dates.

We email you 30 days before each renewal. We don’t charge a renewal without first sending that reminder.

You can turn renewal off at any time in your account. Turning it off keeps the editing time you have already paid for. We don’t give partial refunds for unused editing time.

After a death has been verified, we make no further charges to that person’s payment method.

Hosting keeps your page online once it’s published. Hosting years start only when your page is first published. Until then, none of them are used. Publishing the page again doesn’t restart them.

When hosting ends and isn’t extended, the page goes offline. We keep it privately for 90 days, so hosting can still be restored. After those 90 days our team deletes the page and its media.

Without hosting: if you haven’t bought hosting, your page stays private after your death. It isn’t published and no one is told about it until hosting is bought. If your page has never been published and no hosting was ever bought or included, it may be deleted once all of its editing time has ended. There is no guaranteed grace period or deletion date.

Complimentary hosting follows the same rules when its term ends.

We don’t promise to send reminders before hosting ends.

Check-ins. You can choose check-ins monthly, every three months or once a year. We email you a link to confirm you’re well. If you don’t respond, we send a reminder after 7 days. If we still haven’t heard from you after 14 days, a member of our team tries to contact you and, if needed, your trusted contacts. A missed check-in never counts as a death, and nothing happens automatically.

Death reports. Anyone can tell us about a death by emailing contact@thereafter.life. A member of our team reviews every report and verifies the death before anything else happens.

Publication. We publish a Memorial Page only after all of these:

  1. a member of our team verifies the death;
  2. any death-confirmation contact you chose confirms it;
  3. hosting is in place;
  4. our team approves the release.

Paying for hosting doesn’t publish anything by itself.

When the page is published, we email the people you chose a link to it. You choose whether the page is unlisted (anyone with the link can view and forward it) or searchable (anyone can find, view or copy it).

We may unpublish a page, or hold it back, if we need to check a report, a payment or a problem with its content.

You keep ownership of everything you add. You give us permission to store, copy, check for malware, convert, display and send your content as needed to run the service. That means:

  • showing it to you and to our team;
  • after release, showing it to anyone who has the page’s link (or, for a searchable page, to anyone);
  • sending the notifications you set up.

This permission lasts while we hold your content, including the retention periods in our Privacy Policy.

Only add material you have the right to share, and think about the privacy of the people in it. Don’t add anything unlawful, hateful, or that infringes someone else’s rights.

Our team can see your content so that we can support you, review it before publication and handle reports. We may decline to publish, or may remove, content that breaks these terms or the law.

If you turn on the guestbook, visitors to your published page can post their name and a message. Messages appear immediately after automatic checks. Visitors are responsible for what they post. We may remove messages that break these terms. Guestbook messages are deleted with the page.

You can list people who might want to keep your page online after its hosting ends. Saving a name does nothing yet. We don’t contact anyone on the list or share anything with them. Paying for someone else’s hosting isn’t available yet.

We may restrict an account to protect you, other people or the service. Examples: a security concern, misuse, a breach of these terms, a payment dispute, or a legal requirement. A restricted account can’t sign in. While it is restricted, we send no check-ins, follow-ups, renewal reminders or hosting notices. Restriction doesn’t publish or unpublish a page by itself.

Closing a Memorial online isn’t available yet. To ask us to close a Memorial or delete your account, email contact@thereafter.life. Payments you have already made aren’t refunded when you choose to close a Memorial, except as our refund policy says.

Our refund policy at thereafter.life/refunds is part of these terms. In short:

  • if you’re charged twice or by mistake, we refund that charge in full;
  • if ThereAfter.life closes before delivering what you paid for, we refund that payment in full;
  • we don’t offer refunds if you change your mind.

Refunds go back to the card or account you paid with, through Stripe. Refunds, payment disputes and late payments are handled as our refund policy describes, including what they mean for your Memorial Page.

If we decide to stop offering the service, we will email account holders before we stop, and refund payments for anything we haven’t delivered, as our refund policy says.

If something goes wrong, please email us first so that we can try to put it right.

Each version of these terms has a version identifier. The checkout shows the version you agree to. If we change these terms, the new version applies to purchases from its effective date. A change doesn’t alter what you have already paid for. If a change affects a renewal you have agreed to, we tell you at least 30 days before it applies, and you can turn renewal off.

Email contact@thereafter.life. We reply within 48 hours.
